West Michigan Trailers

Hudsonville Trailer, (“HT”), started serving the trucking industry in 1948 in the city of Hudsonville, Michigan with a 6,000 square foot shop and 200 square feet of parts storage. At that time, the company primarily served local produce farms and individual truckers with repair and sales of truck bodies.

After incorporating in 1951, Hudsonville Trailer hired its first salesman and became a dealer for Dorsey Trailer Company. As the company grew in the 60’s and 70’s, many additions were attached to the original building; a tank repair stall was added, a two-bay paint booth was erected, the general shop area and parts room were enlarged, and the trailer lot was expanded for the growing number of new and used trailer inventories. Many mechanics, support staff and salesmen were added to meet the growing demand for the company’s broad range of services.

The 1980’s proved to be another decade of significant growth for Hudsonville Trailer. Through this period, the organization added Wilson Trailer Company to its quality product offering opening many doors in the important agricultural sector of Michigan’s economy. In 1987, the company relocated to the present facility overlooking the I-196 expressway at the Hudsonville interchange, just two miles from its original building. The building was custom designed with the input of employees and customers to suit industry needs for the present time and into the future.

During the 1990’s Hudsonville Trailer continued to add depth and variety to its dealership selections. It was in the ‘90’s that Mac Trailer Manufacturing was added to the sales line-up of trailers. Since that partnership was initiated, Mac Trailer has grown to be the nation’s leading manufacturer of dump trailers and aluminum flatbed trailers. During this period, Titan Trailer was also brought into the family of quality brands represented by Hudsonville Trailer. Titan’s innovative approach to serving the forestry and agricultural markets with efficient lighter weight multi-axle equipment has made them the trend setter in those important markets.

Another milestone for Hudsonville Trailer was the acquisition in 2010 of Great Lakes Utility, a smaller, quality trailer dealership sharing similar values. Through the merger, ten more very experienced employees were added along with the privilege to represent Utility Trailer Manufacturing, a world class leading manufacturer of dry freight vans, reefers and flatbeds. Utility has had a successful history of over 100 years and manufactures the acclaimed 3000R reefer that continuously maintains over 50% of the reefer market.

Following nearly seven decades of continual growth, it was again time for the company to expand its facilities. In 2015 Hudsonville Trailer started developing 8-acres of vacant land adjacent to its existing facilities providing more I-196 expressway exposure, future building opportunities and over 200 trailer parking spaces for the growing need of sales and leasing trailer inventories.

Hudsonville Trailer, following a rich legacy of nearly seventy years, now employs close to fifty technicians and office personnel, and represents four of the highest respected trailer manufacturers in the industry. The company sells and leases all models of semi-trailers including vans, reefers, dumps, flatbeds, grain trailers, livestock trailers, forestry trailers, tank trailers and several specialty trailers.

Hudsonville Trailer has earned the reputation for providing superior products, outstanding service and quality trailer parts for the benefit of its customers. Equally important to product and service excellence is the sincere desire to build strong, lasting relationships with its customers.

Through the 80’s and 90’s Hudsonville Trailer was known as “The Trailer People”. In the early 2000’s the company’s tag line was changed to “We Know Trailers” which remains to this day. A motto that is frequently shared with its customers, that combines our tag lines over the years is, “Affordable Excellence from People Who Know Trailers”!
